  7. Georgia Power Family Houses The year 2011 saw an increase in the number of days of lodging at our Georgia Power Family Houses. There were over 520 nights of lodging provided at the 5490 Highpoint Road House and the Hemby House. While the convenience these houses provide to the families of our employees and retirees during times of medical treatment and medical emergencies is not something that can be measured, we can calculate the dollar savings. Calculating the cost of a hotel at $100 per night and multipling by the 520 nights, we have saved our employees and retirees $52,000! The high occupancy rate made it necessary to perform some maintenance work at our 5490 house. A new dishwasher and stove were installed. Painting was done inside and out. Concrete work was done on the driveway, retaining wall, sidewalks and a new concrete handicapped ramp was poured to the front door. A new patio door was installed in the breakfast area. Downstairs has upgraded lighting, new ceiling tiles, new tile in the bath and a new toilet. All the baths were recalked and new fans installed. Thank you to everyone that worked hard to complete all of these upgrades in a short time. A special thanks to Ambassador Robert Purcell for coordinating these projects. We would not have been able to finance these project without the help of our chapters throughout the state. Your continued donations help us maintain our Family Houses for our fellow employees and retirees.
