  2. SHINFIELD ST MARY'S CE (VA) JUNIOR SCHOOL Mission Statement At Shinfield St Mary’s we seek to develop a love of learning. For our children, this encompasses academic, moral, social, physical and spiritual development. We believe everyone is precious in the sight of God and we value the individual gifts brought by each and every member of our community. We aim to forge strong links with our families and the wider world and we endeavour to offer an educational experience which will prepare our children to thrive in the changing world in which we live.

  3. 2/7/13 11.15amYear 3 teachers to visit the Infant School to introduce themselves to the children. 11.45am that same day (with Mrs Turner and support staff covering classes) for Year 2 and Year 3 teachers to liaise and share information on the children. • 4/7/13 10.45am Yr 2 invited to playtime at Junior School • 4/7/13 7.00pm Evening transition meeting at Junior School for parents of all current Year 2 children. • 9/7/139.30am to 1.15pmYear 2 children to be taken over by Year 2 staff and left to visit new classrooms, meet new teachers and support assistants in Junior School for a whole morning. Children to stay for lunch and then watch dress rehearsal of play in afternoon – rest of Infant school also to come and watch. Year 5/6 helpers to help reinforce what to do if you get lost, fall over, can’t find a friend etc. Children who have free school meals or who want to try out the school meals, could do so. Dinner money, packed lunches and water bottles to be taken over. Those who are not going to that Junior School will stay and help in the Infant School in the morning. Welcome letters to be given out from teachers about groupings. • At beginning of Autumn term 2013 Arrange time for a couple of ‘feedback’ meetings, one early in the Autumn Term- year 2 staff

Organisation • 3 mixed ability registration groups with year 3 and 4 children with one teacher responsible for them • Consultation with year 2 and current year 3 staff for groupings • Ability grouping for maths ( flexible to needs of children) • Phonic groups- move to another teacher within school • Year groups for music (year 4-guitars- Berkshire Maestros) and french/PSHE • Some assemblies-together • Trips- 3 classes will go together • Team

Uniform • Everything clearly labelled • Ensure children wear correct uniform- Home/ School agreement • Black school shoes (not trainers)/ VANS/no trainers • PE kit: navy blue t shirt and white shorts • No Jewellery- other than watch and small pair of plain stud earrings. • No nail polish please • Correct hair band colour • All jewellery must be removed for PE (please send in surgical tape to cover earrings if they can’t be taken out) • Named PE bag- available from school • Book Bag

Typical Day • Breakfast Club from 7.30 am • Children allowed in playground at 8.45am • School day begins -8.55am • Registration -9.00am followed by Assembly • 9.30-Phonics • 9.45- Lesson 1 • Break -10.45am-11.00am • Lessons 2 and 3 -10.45-12.30pm • Lunch -12.30pm-1.30pm ( 1.25-5 minute whistle) • Afternoon sessions -1.30-3.30pm • End of school day -3.30pm • After School Club or clubs

  11. Break and Lunch time Break time- Healthy snack e.g. Fruit School sells fruit for 20p Lunch time Menu given in advance- discuss with children ( Price - ) Order during registration time Payment-new caterers Packed lunch outside when warm

  12. Equipment Needed • Small simple pencil case • HB pencils • Eraser • Barrel pencil sharpener (that collects shavings) • Book Bag • PE brought in on Monday All labelled please
