Development of the Blue Flag Programme • 1985: Blue Flag ideaintroduced in France • 1987: Blue Flag introduced in Europewith EU support • 1992:SimilarBlue Flag criteria in all European countries • 2001: Blue Flag Programmebecame international with South Africa • 2004: Blue Flag implemented in the Caribbean • 2005-2010:Blue Flag implemented in Brazil, Canada, Morocco, Tunisia, New Zealand, • 2010:41 countrieswith full Blue Flag status – • 8 countriesworkingonimplementing Blue Flag

  19. Blue Flag Procedure • Blue Flag Award for one season • Control – National and International • Control – public eye • Blue Flag withdrawn if not in compliance Application (local authority or marina manager)  Review by the National Jury  Review by the International Jury
