Overview of Paper 2 • There will be five sources and five questions in Paper 2 • You have one hour and twenty five minutes for the exam. • The questions range from 5 – 8 marks in value. • The content of the course is divided into two: • The content outside the boxed area and • The boxed area • The content outside the boxed area is not assessed directly, but there is an expectation that you know the content and can draw on it when answering the five questions where relevant.

  2. Content outside the boxed area • 1919-36 • Fascist ideology and its application to the foreign policies of Germany and Italy from 1933 • The European repercussions of Italian ambition in Abyssinia • The failure of the League of Nations sanctions • The Hoare-Laval Pact (1935) • Attitudes to German rearmament and expansion. • 1938-9 • The fate of Czechoslovakia • The Polish crisis • Events leading to the outbreak of war in September 1939.

  3. The Boxed Area • The interaction between Nazi foreign policy and the policy of appeasement as seen through: • The re-occupation of the Rhineland • Intervention in the Spanish Civil War • The annexation of Austria • The developing crisis in Czechoslovakia up to Munich
