Settling in • How can I help? • Encourage independence – coats, book bags (diary,books), drink bottles • Please can all clothing and bottles be clearly named!! • Please return any of our clothes • Do ask if you need any advice!
What are we learning? • Curriculum Overview– This Is Me! In the Homework Diary. • This Is Me books – a HUGE thank you to everybody for all your hard work!!! • Wow Board • Weekly Learning Overview
Reading • Library books - when,what, where, how? • How can I share books? 10 Top Tips • Homework Diary – what sort of things can we say? • Booktime – http://www.booktime.org.uk • Reading books – start to come home around Christmas. Look out for Bug Club ~ coming soon!!
Phonics • What, when and how? • Synthetic Phonics = Teaching of phonetic sounds to help reading and writing. Children are first taught a small group of sounds, then learn to blend the sounds to read words made up of those sounds, e.g. sat. Then they are taught more sounds and learn to blend those too. • Every morning starting this week! • Jolly Phonics – songs, games, red Phonic book for practising at home! • How do I know how to say the sounds? www.oxfordowl.co.uk
How can I help? • Red Phonics books – 4 sounds each week (sound and action). Do ask and remember no schwars!!! • Flashcards • I spy... • Look out for those sounds in words in books, shops, signs • Magnetic letters • Make up pairs of sounds to play snap or a memory game • Hide-and-seek letters • Internet – BBC, phonics websites, Oxford Owl
What else can I do? • Dressing themselves independently • Reading books regularly – join the local library • Numbers - Counting up/down the stairs, paces to the car, setting the table. Look out for numbers on cars, buses, houses, shops • Talk to your child about what they see around them
