Causes • Tendonitis is most often caused by repeated minor impact on an affected tendon, or from a sudden and very serious injury. • Falling • Lifting heavy objects • Activities that can cause tendonitis: • Gardening • Shoveling • Throwing and pitching
Symptoms • Pain in the area of the affected tendon, and pain may increase when the affected area is moved • Swelling • Redness • Tenderness
Prevention • Reduce number of repetitions on the tendon • Practice proper conditioning and joint positions • May wear splints or pads to guard the damaged area Ankle splint Knee splint Elbow pad
Treatment • Rest the wounded area • A patient may be told to stay away from certain activities • Place Ice on the area (especially right after the injury) • Massage • Proper strengthening exercises • Over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medications
