What is Tendonitis • A tendon is a tough yet flexible band of fibrous tissue. The tendon is the structure in your body that connects your muscles to the bone.
Symptoms • Tenderness directly over the tendon. There’s pain with movement of muscles and tendons. Also swelling of the tendon.
Prevalence • It’s a common sports injury, often occurs from overuse. Nationally, there are 400,000 cases of tendonitis each month. This means, there are 4,800,000 cases of tendonitis each year.
Causes • Overuse injuries to tendons demand too much from the tendon without allowing the tendon to have time to repair. There’s also trauma, tendons become inflamed after a traumatic injury.
Treatments • To treat tendonitis doctors prescribe non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Such as aspirin and ibuprofen. • Also resting is a big part of recovering or treating the tendon.
Interesting Facts • Tendon problems account for almost 30% of all running injuries and 40% of all tennis injuries.
