Background Common Frustrations for Youth Service Organizations • Addressing all the diverse needs of Pueblo’s youth • Programs too full/not full enough • Not aware of other youth programs in the neighborhood • Not sure of approach/cost/times/availability of other programs • Limited impact • Funding cuts/No new funding sources • No/poor outcomes measurement • Don’t know who to ask for program resources • Lacking strategic planning skills • Very little community awareness of nonprofit/church contributions • Misconceptions about other youth programs/conflicting agendas Addressing the immediate needs of those on the front-lines
Who We Are A diverse group of nonprofits, churches, educators, public agencies, policy makers and community members volunteering their time to collectively address the diverse needs of Pueblo’s youth in open, self-directed meetings. Over 90 representatives from more than 65 local organizations are involved.
Our Mission(Discuss and edit as needed) To integrate community efforts and empower those on the front-lines with the shared knowledge and resources needed to maximize our combined impact on the local teen pregnancy rate by providing a collaborative network of positive youth development support to help Pueblo's youth discover skills and resources to avoid risky behaviors and achieve their goals.
Accomplishments So Far Created and published a comprehensive, multi-approach, shared list of community-wide youth resources including: • safe activities • mentoring • counseling and mental health • education • employment • emergency and support services For use by: • youth service workers • churches • schools • parents • teens > 165 activities and programs across the city Empowering those on the front-lines to create customized support plans for the diverse physical, mental, emotional, spiritual and intellectual needs of Pueblo’s youth.
Accomplishments So Far New funding opportunities – grants, social enterprise Share program information, get questions answered Resource sharing – programs with partners, programs with venues Sharing common frustrations Parent discussion: What are Pueblo parents doing? What should they be doing? How can we connect with them? Where do we focus our limited resources for greatest impact?
