  3. STATISTICS • One percent of all Americans have schizophrenia

SIGNS • Social withdrawal • Hostility or suspiciousness • Deterioration of personal hygiene • Flat, expressionless gaze • Inability to cry or express joy • Inappropriate laughter or crying • Depression • Oversleeping or insomnia • Odd or irrational statements • Forgetful; unable to concentrate • Extreme reaction to criticism • Strange use of words or way of speaking

  5. SYMPTOMS • Hallucinations • Delusions • Thought disorders • Movement disorders

  6. TIPS AND TREATMENT • Psycho therapy • Medications • Ex. Chlorpromazine (Thorazine) , Haloperidol (Haldol) , Arbiprazolen (Abilify) ext. • Self help groups • Rehab • Behavioral therapy

  7. FACTS • 25 % of people with schizophrenia recover completely • The most common form of hallucinations are auditory experiences such as “voices.” • Schizophrenia is not the same as “split personality.” • It is estimated that more than 2.7 million Americans now have schizophrenia
