Sectionalism Because of an idea called “Sectionalism” many problems arose between the North and the South. Using the illustration – what do think the meaning of “sectionalism” means? he placing of the needs of one section of the nation over the needs of the whole nation.

One of the biggest issue was the “Disputed Northern Border” between Texas and New Mexico. Another issue was the fact that there were many run away slaves escaping all the time.

Problem-Solving Activity • To solve problems created by SECTIONALISM, the leaders had to find a compromise! • Using the problem solving worksheet to pick 2 of the 3 problems to solve. • Provide at least 1 solution for each of the problems (you can do more). • Identify how the solution is both positive and negative.
