  2. Elements can be identified by their properties. These properties includetheir melting point and boiling point. • Elements can exist as solids, liquids, and gasses, depending on their temperature and pressure. Question #1 (1.1)

  3. Elements are grouped together on the Periodic Table based on their shared characteristics. • Elements further to the left on the Periodic Table are more reactive while elements further to the right are less reactive. • The least reactive elements are known as the Noble Gasses. These are found in the far right column of the Periodic Table. These gasses do not form compounds and typically exist only as elements. Questions #2 & #3 (1.2 & 1.3)

  4. Metals are on to the left of the zigzag line on the Periodic Table. • There are far more elements that are metals than any other type of element. • Nonmetals are to the right of the zigzag line on the Periodic Table. • Metalloids touch the zigzag line on the Periodic Table. Questions 4 & 5 (1.4 & 1.5)

  5. Metals tend to have the following characteristics: • Malleable • Shiny • Good Conductors of Heat and Electricity • High melting point • Non-metals tend to have the following characteristics • Brittle • Dull • Not good conductors of heat and electricity • Usually gasses at room temperature Questions 4 & 5 (1.4 & 1.5)
