  1. Configuring and Managing the FlexNet Components: Reprogramming Smart Meters RNI Release 3.1 SP2 C-PAMRAMI-WGE-0142-01

  2. Introduce the tasks a FlexNet administrator can perform from the Reprogramming page using a variety of common examples. The goal of this module is to:

  3. Describe the purpose of the FlexWare Reprogramming page. • List two common uses of the reprogramming page. • Modify the Meter ID for a set of electric/gas meters using the reprogramming page. • Modify the threshold for a power quality parameter for a set of meters using the reprogramming page. • Modify the threshold for the leak detection parameter for a set of water SmartPoint modules. • Modify the threshold for the broken pipe parameter for a set of gas SmartPoint modules. Module Objectives

  4. Obtaining and Modifying Meter Configuration Overview When configuration errors occur during installation or you want to modify default meter settings from the factory, you can reprogram the meter using the FlexWare Reprogramming page You can also request configuration status from a meter from the Reprogramming page Use caution as not all parameters should be modified

  5. Common Uses of the Reprogramming Page Overview Correction of meter IDs (electric and gas only) Addition or correction of geographical coordinates Request a setup or binding message Adjust alarm threshold values Adjust power quality threshold values Temporarily suspend encryption Typically used to perform actions on a set of meters (versus a single meter)

  6. Modifying Meter IDs for Installed Meters: Step 1 Modifying Meter IDs Create a text file with a list of the electric or gas meter IDs you want to change • List data for each meter on a separate line • Enter the current (wrong) meter ID • Follow each meter ID with the pipe symbol “|” • Follow the pipe with the new (correct) meter ID

  7. Modifying Meter IDs for Installed Meters: Step 2 Modifying Meter IDs Click Administration > Meters > Reprogramming

  8. Modifying Meter IDs for Installed Meters: Step 3 Modifying Meter IDs Expand the General Setup option by clicking on the

  9. Modifying Meter IDs for Installed Meters: Step 4 Modifying Meter IDs Expand the Meter Id option by clicking on the

  10. Modifying Meter IDs for Installed Meters: Steps 5-7 Modifying Meter IDs Copy the meter list created in Step 1 into the window Select Meter Ids Click Process Changes

  11. Modifying Meter IDs for Installed Meters: Step 8 Modifying Meter IDs Monitor the results of the request

  12. Modifying Meter IDs for Installed Meters: Steps 9-12 Modifying Meter IDs Click < Back Expand General Setup Expand Commands Check Binding Ping • Thiscauses the meters to send a binding message that will update the database with the new meter IDs

  13. Modifying Meter IDs for Installed Meters: Steps 13-16 Modifying Meter IDs Scroll down to the Meters section and copy the new meter ids into the entry box Select Meter Ids Set Max Run Time so that enough time is available for all meters to receive the binding ping request Click Process Changes

  14. Modifying Meter IDs for Installed Meters: Steps 17 Modifying Meter IDs Track results in the Reports > Show Batch Jobs Click batch number for your job 4 of 5 80% 87654321 76543218 65432187 54321876 01 43218765 00

  15. Modifying the Temperature Alarm Threshold: Steps 1-3 Modifying Thresholds Create a list of meters for which you want to change the threshold Click Administration > Meters > Reprogramming Expand the Electric option Expand the Power Quality option

  16. Modifying the Temperature Alarm Threshold: Steps 4-8 Modifying Thresholds Modify the threshold value • Enter value or use up/down arrows Copy the meters from the list into the Meters section Select the type of ID you are using Set the Max Run Time Click Process Changes

  17. Modifying the Temperature Alarm Threshold: Steps 9-13 Modifying Thresholds When complete, click < Back Expand General Setup Expand Commands Check Channel Setup Audit Ping to cause the meters to send messages that will update the database with the new threshold Track results in the Reports > Show Batch Jobs

  18. Modifying SmartPoint Leak Detection Threshold: Steps 1-4 Modifying Thresholds Create a list of meters for which you want to change the threshold Click Administration > Meters > Reprogramming Expand the Water option Expand the Leak Detection option

  19. Modifying SmartPoint Leak Detection Threshold: Steps 5-6 Modifying Thresholds Modify the threshold value to the appropriate number of counts Modify the number of reads during which the leak must be detected

  20. Modifying SmartPoint Leak Detection Threshold: Steps 7-10 Modifying Thresholds Copy the meters from the list into the Meters section Select the type of ID you are using Set the Max Run Time Click Process Changes

  21. Modifying SmartPoint Leak Detection Threshold: Steps 11-15 Modifying Thresholds When complete, click < Back Expand General Setup Expand Commands Check Channel Setup Audit Ping to cause the meters to send messages that will update the database with the new threshold Track results in the Reports > Show Batch Jobs

  22. Modifying SmartPoint Backflow Threshold: Steps 1-4 Modifying Thresholds Create a list of meters for which you want to change the threshold Click Administration > Meters > Reprogramming Expand the Water or Gas option Expand the Backflow option

  23. Modifying SmartPoint Backflow Threshold: Steps 5-6 Modifying Thresholds Modify the threshold value to the appropriate number of counts Copy the meters from the list into the Meterssection

  24. Modifying SmartPoint Backflow Threshold: Steps 7-9 Modifying Thresholds Select the type of ID you are using Set the Max Run Time Click Process Changes

  25. Modifying SmartPoint Backflow Threshold: Steps 10-14 Modifying Thresholds When complete, click < Back Expand General Setup Expand Commands Check Channel Setup Audit Ping to cause the meters to send messages that will update the database with the new threshold Track results in the Reports > Show Batch Jobs

  26. Which best describes a primary purpose of the FlexWare Reprogramming page? • Used to modify the FlexNet ID of a meter • Used to modify selected configuration parameters on a set of meters • Used to send billing requests to meters • Used to send configuration status to meters

  27. Which of the following is a good use of the reprogramming page? • Temporarily suspending encryption on a set of meters • Modify alarm thresholds for Smart Point modules • Request configuration information for a meter group • All of the above
