  5. Absent and tardy policy • Please send in a note every time your child is absent. You can write it in the planner, but it is preferred if you write it on a separate piece of paper. • If your child goes to the doctor please send in a doctor’s note. • If your child arrives after 8:40, you must check in with the office before sending your child to class. • Please make sure you are walking in with your child at 8:40.

  6. Cooperative Learning • Cooperative learning is a successful teaching strategy in which small teams, each with students of different levels of ability, use a variety of learning activities to improve their understanding of a subject. Each member of a team is responsible not only for learning what is taught but also for helping teammates learn, thus creating an atmosphere of achievement.

  8. Planner Policy • Planners are used as a communication tool for teachers and parents. This is where you can find info about the school, homework, calendar, etc. • They must be signed every night in theReading sectionAND at the bottom.

  9. Monday folder • They must be signed each Monday after you have seen everything inside. This is where you will find important information from teachers and the school. • This is where you will find Report Cards/Progress Reports as well. They will receive a progress report and report card each quarter.

  10. homework • All students will have 30 minutes of Reading each night. • Language Arts fluency each night except for Friday. We will also be starting passage work which will be completed nightly. • 1 black and white math sheet, front and back, each night. 1 Colored sheet at the beginning of the chapter. • Colored pages are classwork and can be used for extra support (not required to be completed). • There will be other activities/projects throughout the year as well.

  11. Go math! • Our Math curriculum called Go Math. It is a program that goes along with the Florida Standards. It is based on 4 Critical Areas: • 1. Number Sense and Place Value • 2. Addition and Subtraction • 3. Measurement and Data • 4. Geometry and Fractions • For additional games and homework practice please go to • https://www-k6.thinkcentral.com/ePC/start.do. • Your child’s log-in information will be inside their planner on a sticker.

  12. Math journal • Please be sure to review your child’s journal each night and make sure that the journal is returning to school each day. • In the journal, you will find vocabulary wordsfor the chapter, examples from lessons and other helpful information to go along with specific lessons.

  15. Social studies • We will be using Studies Weekly Newspapers. • Our units this year will be: • Patriotism • Map It • Early America • Economics • American History • Government • Continents-Countries-States-Cities • Rules and Responsibilities

  16. World lab journal • Please be sure to review your child’s journal each night and make sure that the journal is returning to school each day. • In the journal, you will find vocabulary words, notes from the lessons, and labs that are completed in class.

  17. Grading scale A 90-100 B 80-89 C 70-79 D 60-69 There will be at least 10 grades given per quarter in each subject.

  19. dividends • Please go to the Seminole County website to sign up to volunteer in any capacity (www.scps.k12.fl.us) then click the tab on the left that says • “Dividends/School Volunteer”. • Once you sign up, it can take at least 3 weeks to be approved. You must be approved at least 3 weeks before going on any field trips.

  20. Field trips • We are hoping to go on 1 to 2 field trips this school year (more information to come).

  21. Lunch policies • M/T/TH/F: 1:45-2:15 Wed.: 12:45-1:15 • For birthday and class celebrations please ONLY send in “store bought” items that are pre-portioned into individual servings with enough for everyone in the class (i.e. brownies, cookies, or cupcakes). Please DO NOT send in homemade items and items that require cutting (i.e. entire cakes, cookie cakes, pies). Additionally, please DO NOT bring or send in balloons, flowers or other props since there is not room in the cafeteria or classroom for these items. Thank you for your help with making these celebrations a success! • Siblings can not come to lunch. • All visitors must be a registered dividend.

  22. snack • Since lunch is later in the day this year, we will be having a quick snack in the morning during math. This snack should be quick and easy to eat, but also something that will be filling until lunch. Please do not send anything that is “wet” as this usually tends to end up on the floor, or all over materials. • Please try to send in non-perishable snacks as the students take these out first thing in the morning, and do not eat them until 10:25am. • Snack Examples: • Cheese Stick • Apple Slices • Gold Fish/Cheez Its/Animal Crackers • Granola/Breakfast Bar

  23. Classroom celebrations • The students will have 3 parties a year (before Winter Break, Valentine’s Day, and End of the Year).
