  3. What are the developmental needs of SJC students and how do they compare to students at other higher education institutions?

Number of Developmental Subjects by Ethnicity/Race - AtD Institutions • Number of developmental subjects such as math, English, and reading • Data from 35 AtD institutions • 85 percent of students needed at least one developmental course • Clifford Adelman (USDE) found that the more developmental courses a student is required to take, the less likely he or she is to earn a degree. Definitions of Success Rates • Retention – Any student who is enrolled in a course on the official count day (Census Day) and does not withdraw from the course. • Success – A student receiving a grade in a course of A, B, C, or S. • Enrollee Success Rate – Percentage of the number of students who are successful divided by the number of students enrolled at Census Day. • Completer Success – Percentage of the number of students who are successful divided by the number of students enrolled at the end of the semester.
