GLOBAL SOLIDARITY AND DEVELOPMENT ROSALYN VUONG CHRISTIAN OUTREACH
Global Solidarity and Development • Global means: The whole World • Solidarity according to the dictionary.com means,” Union or fellowship arising from common responsibilities between people, groups, etc. • Development means growing. • “The test of our progress is not whether we add to the abundance of those who have much. It is whether we provide enough to those who have little.” Franklin D. Roosevelt Quotes
Therefore, global solidarity and development means that as children of God we have a duty towards each other. This duty is to support each other and be there for each other whether it is economically, ideologically, or any way possible. • We as Christians are not only to help each other out because it is what God wants and we know that it is the right thing to do, but we are also to do it because we are all children of God and care for each other.
Real Life Example: • Now days, there are many ways in which people are trying to help each other out globally. • Whether it is because a country or people are going through a natural disaster, governmental problems, war, economical problems, etc.
The Earthquake in Japan: • In March, 2011 there was a terrible earthquake and tsunami that hit the island of Japan. According to CNN,” The 8.9-magnitude temblor, which was centered near the east coast of Japan, killed hundreds of people, caused the formation of 30-foot walls of water that swept across rice fields, engulfed entire towns, dragged houses onto highways, and tossed cars and boats like toys. Some waves reached six miles (10 kilometers) inland in Miyagi Prefecture on Japan's east coast” • As we have read, things seemed pretty horrible.
When things like these happen to nations, as it did to Japan, they need the help of others, and as human beings this is where we step in. Japan received so much help during these hard times for the country. • Charities, organizations, and companies from all over the world were donating money, support, and whatever was needed to Japan. • Without the help of all these nations, one is to wonder what Japan would do.
Global Solidarity is a perfect example of how it is to be carried out, as it was to Japan. • We are all children of God, no matter the race, and imagine how you would feel if you lived in Japan when this earthquake took place. • There are two things to take into consideration: • - WWJD (What would Jesus Do) • And • - we are all God’s children, and we love one another not because it is right but because it is what we want to do.
Quotes: • “Great opportunities to help others seldom come, but small ones surround us every day.” Sally Koch • I like this quote because in order to create global solidarity in the world it does not have to be something big, but in God’s eyes it is the thought and motive behind the gesture, no matter how big or how small.
