How Do We Prepare? • We teach Common Core State Standards in 1st grade and Sunshine State Standards in 2nd grade • We administer practice tests to familiarize students with format • Practice listening to and following directions * • Build stamina in reading (25 – 35 min.)
Important to Note… • Primarily a LISTENING assessment • Scripted ~ we can ONLY say what is written in the script • Directions are given orally • Many questions are not printed on test • Questions are read only ONCE, but information is restated in many questions
Classroom/Test Procedures • Seats will be separated • All “aids” covered up or taken down • Students will be given “markers” to keep their place and scrap paper for solving math problems • No Homework that week!!! • No parent volunteers in school
How you can help – Your child needs to … • Get plenty of sleep – earlier bedtime • Eat a good breakfast (universal) • Be at school – not a good week for doctor appointments or vacations • *If sick – STAY HOME! • Be on time!
A Little Help From Home Most importantly… Encourage your child to do their best
Questions??? • Conference night is February 28th • We can discuss strategies that may help your child • We can not discuss specific content
