Electronic Digital Computer Mechanic Apprentice Program The work requires knowledge and understanding of: • Operating electronic and scientific principles • Computer hardware operations and mechanics • Software programs and programming principals • Computer logic • Computer driven sensors, probes and surveillance devices • A variety of electronic test equipment This 3-year program combines work experience, academic classes and technical certifications to prepare participants to install, troubleshoot, repair, calibrate and test electronic digital computer systems and software as well as components and peripheral devices.
Participants will graduate with 4,000 hours work experience + 2,000 hours academic instruction + Four certifications Academic Requirements: This program requires approximately 110-133 academic credits. Participants can graduate with one of the following degrees: ATA - LAN ADMINISTRATION ATA - COMPUTER INFORMATION SYSTEMS ATA - INFORMATIONS SYSTEMS SCIENCE Technical Certifications: This program requires four industry standard technical certifications such: A+ SANS SECURITY NETWORK+ MCP (Operating System) MCSD MSCE CCNA MCDBA MOUS
A Total of 4000 Hours of Work Experience in: Introduction to the Network Network Documentation Switch Configuration Installing Copper Cable Introduction to a Physical Network Managing the Firewalls Network Troubleshooting Software Development Web Design Hardware Support Desktop Support Configuring Servers Managing the Virus Perimeter Providing E- mail Services Manning the Help Desk Work Place Orientation Introduction to Best Practices Technical Skills Development Project Management Concepts Including specialized on the job training in one or more of the following areas: Introduction to RAS/VPN(Remote Access Services/Virtual Private Networking) Presentation Support Providing Streamed Media VTC Support Video Production Providing PKI (Public Key Infrastructure) Introduction to COMSEC – (Communications Security) Servers and Sensors Technical Support of VOIP Introduction to Intrusion Detection Understanding N-TIER Architecture Testing and QA SQL Data Base Design Introduction to Data Vaults Data Mining Presentation Support PDA Support Assessing New Technology

Apprentice participants choose various “Building Block” work assignments - paralleling academic and career goals. They complete weekly work journals and keep track of all OJT with an application called “Competency Wizard”.
Periodic surveys are used for assessing performance and discovering new opportunities for growth for apprentices. We have also developed two applications “Expertise Locator” and “Knowledge Explorer” to support knowledge transfer and workforce revitalization.
