Definitions • Ease- The amount of extra room allowed in the fit of a garment over the size of the body. • Designer Ease- The extra amount of room in addition to wearing ease, added to a garment to create a style. • Dart- Fabric folded into a triangle and stitched to a point, adding shape and fullness. Basic tool used in pattern making. • Silhouette- The outside edge of a garment or figure. • Asymmetrical- Design details that are divided unequally from the center. If done properly the design should still appear balanced. • Symmetrical- The right and left side of a garment are exactly the same. • Bodice- The area of a garment from the shoulders to the waistline seam. • Closure- Fasteners such as buttons, zippers, snaps, etc. that enable the wearer to get in and out of a garment.
