  4. II. Cambyses • 530 BC – Son of Cyrus – New Persian King • Didn’t follow the ideas/ways of his father • Conquered Egypt

  5. Scorned the Egyptian religion • Images of Gods – Burn ‘Em

  6. Results • REBELLIONS!!! • Internal wars – NOT GOOD!

  7. III. Darius • Next Persian King • Was a Bodyguard

  8. Spent 1st three years putting down revolts • Ruled like Cyrus

  9. Divided Kingdom into Provinces • Conquered people could practice their own religion, language, and laws • Assigned a tax collector and military leader to each province

  10. IV. Achievements • Created the Royal Road • Standard coins – 1st time in history • Never conquered Greece – Only Failure!

  11. Darius’s Failure!! • Never conquered Greece

  12. VII. Zoroastrianism • Persian prophet – Zoroaster • Explained why the world was full of war, violence, and famine • Monotheistic – Ahura Mazda
