To formulate policies and strategic plans on the development and utilization of atomic energy, as well as to coordinate the plans and hence move towards realistic practice 2.To perform R&D to promote safe and extensive utilization of Nuclear energy; to transfer nuclear technology and provide capacity for the useful utilization of nuclear technology for national development in medicine, agriculture and industry 3.To regulate and ensure safe utilization of nuclear energy 4.To be a center for technical cooperation and other activities associate with peaceful application of nuclear energy, in collaboration with local and international organizations

Office of Atoms for Peace (OAP) Bureau of Radiation Safety Regulation (BRSR) ; 1.To perform radiation safety regulation and law enforcement 2.To carry out inspection, evaluation, licensing and coordinating of matter related to radiation safety 3.To coordinate with organizations in Thailand and abroad on radiation emergency preparedness

Office of Atoms for Peace (OAP) Bureau of Technical Support for Safety Regulation (BTSR) ; 1.To perform national radiation and radioactivity standardization; to establish and maintain calibration standard; and to certify measurement 2.To carry out environmental radioactivity dosimetry and cooperate or support other in radioactivity monitoring, analysis and assessment in accordance with oblagations of the treaties 3.To assess personal radiation exposure of operators and those involved 4.To regulate, control, inspect and coordinate activities related to atomic energy in Thailand in accordance with the NPT

9. Main responsibilities of OAP * Establish rules, regulations and measure for the control and regulation of the use of nuclear energy and waste management; * To control and regulate peaceful uses of nuclear energy and nuclear facilities through its BRSR and BNSR. Control functions (inspections) in general are performed through competent officials appointed by the Minister who takes charge and control of the execution of the Act; * Cooperate for nuclear affairs and foreign relations;

10. Responsibility of Regulatory Units at the OAP * Bureau of Nuclear Safety Regulationis responsible for control of nuclear facility. * Bureau of Radiation Safety Regulation is responsible for control of radioactive materials and radiation protection aspects. * Bureau of Atomic Energy Administration is responsible for co-ordination of AEC meeting and legislation aspects. * Bureau of Technical Support for Safety Regulation is responsible for environmental Radioactivity, surveillance, dosimetry and nuclear material control.

11. Atomic Energy for Peace Act • To protect life, health and property from the hazards of nuclear energy and from the harmful effects of ionizing radiation. • To provide compensation for damage caused by nuclear energy or ionizing radiation. • To prevent danger to the internal or external security from the use or the release of nuclear energy. • To meet its obligations in the field of nuclear energy and protection against radiation.

18. Present status of nuclear program in Thailand * Only one research reactor * Most of radioactive materials are widely used in medical care, industry, agriculture and R&D, etc. * Government seems to have clear policy to launch 4 NPPs in Thailand by 2020-2021. * Research and development including education and training are mainly focus on non-power application.
