Introduction of RCARO Regional Cooperative Agreement (RCA) • The RCA is an inter-governmental agreement for East Asia & Pacific region, under the auspices of the IAEA, in which the Government Parties undertake, in co-operation with each other and with the IAEA to promote and co-ordinate co-operative research, development (R&D) and training projects in nuclear science and technology through their appropriate national institutes. • The RCA was started in 1972 and with the participation of 17 Member States.

Introduction of RCARO Established of RCARO • To provide enhanced visibility for the RCA and developing partnerships with other international organizations, RCA Regional Office (RCARO) was established on 27th March, 2002 in Daejeon, Korea. Major Functions • To increase RCA visibility • To Promote RCA visibility

  5. Introduction of RCARO Opportunity with RCARO • RCARO/KAERI Regional Training Workshop • RCARO Temporary Staff Fellowship Programme • RCARO/Post-Doctoral Fellowship Programme • RCARO/KAIST Master’s Degree Course • RCARO/KOICA Nuclear Medicine Internship Programme

Introduction of RCARO RCA Mission • To identify and implement nuclear technologies for regional needs • To encourage sustainability of nuclear capabilities in the RCA Member States • To coordinate cooperative research in nuclear science and technology • To promote the benefits of nuclear technologies and identify funding mechanisms • To develop regional network for exchange of technologies, training and equipment

Introduction of RCARO Policy Action of RCA • Preparation for Medium Term Strategy 2012-2017 - RCA vision, missions, core values, etc. - Strategic directions for RCA Programme • Strategic Priorities for Development of RCA Projects - Assessment of regional needs (based on survey and an analysis of the outcomes past RCA Project) - Developing directions and priorities for future RCA Projects

Assignments at RCARO • To review the RCARO website, learning the mission, history, Member States, and cooperation projects of RCARO • To review the RCA and RCARO Current Status and Future Directions • To review the Outcome Report of The 39th RCA General Conference Meeting • To review the List of International Conference in 2010 in Asia and the Pacific Region

Assignments at RCARO • Check the relevant document of Mitigating the Coastal Impacts of the Tsunami using Nuclear Technology (the RCA Success Stories) • Check the relevant document of List of International Conference in 2011 • Search the information of Nuclear Power in South Korea • Help to do the updating database of 17 National RCA Representatives for homepage’s RCARO

Experience from RCARO • Learned about current status and future directions of RCARO • Understanding about the operation of RCARO for the enhancement of RCA • Understood importance meetings and conferences related to the RCA actives • Known about RCA Success Stories which have then resulted in socio-economic benefits at the national level • RCARO should be held the Seminar or Meeting of All RCARO Temporary Staff for increased relationships among the RCA Member States
