"Do not pervert justice; do not show partiality to the poor or favoritism to the great, but judge your neighbor fairly." Leviticus 19:15 • "There will always be poor people in the land. Therefore I command you to be openhanded toward your brothers and toward the poor and needy in your land." Deuteronomy 15:11 • "He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap; he seats them with princes and has them inherit a throne of honor." 1 Samuel 2:8
NIETZSCHE GOD IS DEAD = MAN IS DEAD? • death = annulment by man of the supersensible world • Transforming the traditions/ norms made by religion • How? = tool: science
LAWS OF RELIGION • Favors the weak (restrictions) • Platonic: transcending • Morality: limits the strong/progression • Cripples progression • But created by man 2. LAWS OF NATURE • Directed towards development and growth • Survival of the fittest and the strong • Weak has no right from nature to exist. • Annulment of the supersensible world • Power is the supreme virtue
CHRISTIANITY • Active pity for all the failures • Has depressing effects (stoics) • Contradicted the strong to preserve itself • Sinning = weak
ANNULMENT/ NIHILISTIC ATTITUDE • Transforming the old values into newer ideas that may be applicable to the present (idea of change)
THE WEAK: • Must be eliminated to give way to the strong • E.g. • German military: aryan race(conqueror of the world)
Übermensch(“overman”) • self-evolution • Will to truth • Not to deceive and not to be deceived • Overcoming weakness/ fear • GAY SCIENCE God’s death: • liberation from mediocrity, • self-evolution. • Man: master of himself • Karma?
SCIENCE • world can be transformed • E.g. condom, in vitro fertilization • own rules: HEIGHTENS THE FEELING OF POWER • rules that are “nihilistic” • transforming the world towards development. • Cause for nihilism: Reason = MAN • by imposing strict, inhuman “man-made categories • over humanity’s existential essence.
E.g. new urban planning vs. laws of birth control according to the Church
SUMMARY • WE DO NOT HAVE THE FULL CAPACITY TO REALIZE THE COMPLETE IDENTITY OF GOD. • WHAT WE DID WAS TO CREATE LAWS THAT MAY SOMEHOW DEFINE GOD’S REALITY. • SENSE OF CONSOLATION • BUT THESE LAWS TEND TO SUPPRESS MAN’S EXISTENTIAL REALITY MAINLY BECAUSE THESE LAWS ARE CREATED IN ACCORDANCE TO MAN’S UNDERSTANDING OF A GOD. • MAN CREATED THE IDEA OF GOD: MAN KILLED GOD’S REALITY
