6th Grade Curriculum—Core Topics • Importance of river valleys to the development of civilization • Early Paleolithic and Neolithic ages • Culture and the 10 Cultural Universals • Egyptian Civilization • Mesopotamia • China • India • Greek Civilization • Roman Civilization • Compare Eastern and Western Religions • Byzantine Empire • Renaissance • Age of Exploration • Geography • Economics
The Classroom • The teacher facilitates learning. (Someone has to be in charge.) • The teacher, not the bell, dismisses the class. (Mr. Humphrey is in charge.) • You are only as good as your leader. (Mr. Humphrey has high expectations.) • Students are expected to turn in work on time. (Late work will not be accepted after five school days and there will be a percentage loss of points for each day late.) • Respect is always welcome. (Whatever you receive is merely a reflection of what you’ve given.)
What is Mr. Humphrey’s Iclass? • Greek Mythology. This class focuses primarily on the Greek mythological stories, their meaning and how they relate to understanding Ancient Greek culture.
Grading Scale 90-100 A Range 80-89 B Range 70-79 C Range 60-69 D Range 59 or below F Range
Grades • Grades will be calculated based on assessments, classwork, and homework. • Assessments comprise 80% of a student’s grade and classwork and homework 20%. • Some examples of assessments are quizzes, tests, projects, labs, lab reports, and reading response assignments. • Classwork and homework grades will be a combination of in class and assigned homework. • There is no extra credit. • Students and parents can access the online gradebook year-round using the “Parent-Vue” and “Student-Vue” login pages, accessible from the Kyrene website.
Tardy Policy • Students are expected to be in their seat working when the bell rings.Students will receive one warning for their first tardy. If students receive any additional tardy marks, they will be assigned a lunch detention.
Make-up Work • It is the responsibility of the student to retrieve missing work when returning from an absence. • Students have the same number of days that they were absent to make up any work. • If students are absent the day before a test or quiz, they will be expected to take the test or quiz the day they return. If a student is absent the day of an assessment, they are expected to take it the day they return. • Late work will be accepted within one week of the original due date for partial credit. Work turned in after one week will not be accepted
Zoyo Yogurt Night • Sept. 9th , 2013 (Monday) • 5:00pm—7:00pm • Guadalupe and McClintock • Informal meet and greet time with 6A Teachers. • Buy some yogurt, hang out, share your time with us! • Bring the family.
