Background Background Legislative update E2SSB 6552: Legislative discussion around increasing instructional hours at secondary level from 1,000 to 1,080 Raise graduation credit requirement from 20-credits to 24-credits March 14: Legislature shifted $97 million for the 2014-2015 school year to begin phasing in a 24-credit diploma (pivot table indicates BISD portion—enrollment dependent—to be around $350,000) 2015-2016 School year and Beyond: 1080 instructional hours and 24-credit diploma starting with the class of 2019 Cost for Families for an additional Class Bainbridge High School is a 6-period day with limited zero period offerings. Currently families have to pay for a zero period class if they also take 6-classes during the regular school day (this pays for the teacher since we are only funded for 6-classes); with the new monies appropriated from the state, there would be no fee. Only courses that would still require a fee are independent study courses outside of the existing school day schedule.
Now What…. BHS completed pre-registration in late February. Schools around the state are having similar conversations…. How can we best use the % of state allocated $97 million to enhance educational opportunities for students? 2015-Beyond 1080 & Core 24 2014-2015

Will I for sure get one of my two selections? Many variables will play into the ability to offer selected classes; student interest, staff availability, capacity. When will I find out if I have a Zero period class? August. Once BHS receives the data, we will meld zero period interest with pre-registration data to begin to build a master schedule & configure staffing. Students will find out during registration in August. If I already signed up for a zero period during pre-registration do I need to sign up again? No. Students who already pre-registered for courses that currently exist as a zero period—jazz band, AP Statistics, Pre-Calculus, AP Spanish, Newspaper, Weight Training—do not need to complete zero period invitation. If I pre-registered for an existing zero period class , originally only registered for 5 classes, but now would like to take an additional class, do I complete the survey? Yes. You would need to complete the survey to let us know the additional course you would like to take during the school day.
