The Challenge… • … to investigate water use in the local area • identify a water issue to be addressed • design and present a proposal • to reduce consumption of drinking water at school or in the local area.
Banksia Road PS – Class 3C • The issue… wasting water at home! On average, showers take at least 10 minutes. 5% of people surveyed leave the tap on when washing their teeth. 3

Banksia Road PS – Class 4P • The issue… using drinking water for toilet flushing… The K-2 toilet block has 4 toilets in the boys, 7 toilets in the girls, a total of 14 taps and 10 bubblers.
Banksia Road PS – Class 4P The solution … Plans for collecting rainwater Our covered walkways … could not only be used to harvest water but also to transfer water from the COLA to the roof of the toilet block andinto the rainwater tanks. Water would need to be pumped from the tanks into the toilet block for use in the toilet cisterns. This would save hundreds of litres of water each day.
