TTU Department of English Multiple Literacy Lab (The MuLL) The MuLL is a university media lab working to support faculty, students, and staff in the TTU Department of English and across the university. Since opening January 2007, the MuLL has held over 2500 consultations, and we’re increasing our work with workplace communities. TTU Department of English Multiple Literacy Lab (The MuLL) • We support: • Copying, printing, and duplicating multiple media (DVD, VHS) • Encoding media (QuickTime, Windows Media) • Printing (posters, handouts, PDFs, PowerPoints, forms) • Considering media (meetings, viewings, assessments) • Facilitating media (advising, online, and in-person instruction) • In exchange: • The MuLL gains experience in the form of internships and assistantships • Media supplies, equipment, and software • Additional resources for new research, teaching, and service avenues • MuLL as bridge: • The MuLL serves as a bridge between the workplace and academy • The MuLL serves as a bridge between research, teaching, and service

TTU Department of English Multiple Literacy Lab (The MuLL) • Course redesign models, grant writing, and MuLLing: • The Supplemental Model • Traditional course with out-of-class materials and activities. • The Replacement Model • Reduced in-class meetings with online learning activities. • The Emporium Model • Eliminates in-class meetings and uses a learning resource center. • The Fully Online Model • Eliminates all in-class meetings but includes online meetings. • The Buffet Model • Customizes the learning environment for each type of learner.
TTU Department of English Multiple Literacy Lab (The MuLL) Project: The Texas Tech University, LeCroy (Distance Education) Center, Dallas County Community District, EDUCAUSE, and Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board Course Redesign Projects Support Solution: The SmartCasting Media Player Interface through a Distributed Assessment Workshop Moodle Module. This ongoing development has incorporated very complex teaching and administrative praxis from our clients and has worked through home-grown, publisher-driven, and open-source course management tools. Does using video to teach composition increase writing transfer? Which best practices support instructional change institutionally?
