3. Course Syllabus Course Purpose:This course is will be covering content in world history starting from the year 500 A.D to the present. Thirteen major units will be thoroughly explained, discussed, and evaluated in this course. As we study each unit it will help us as students to see the impact historical events have on today’s world. In addition this course is designed to strengthen your map skills, sense of geography, reading skills, writing skills, research skills and more.

5. Course Success and Grades: Grades are calculated each six weeks using a point system. In this course, all of the following will be incorporated into determining your points and therefor grades.

6. Grades • Bell work [ 5 points a day] • In class assignments [10-40 points] • Homework [10-30 points] • Individual projects/presentations [points outlined in rubrics] • Group projects/presentations [points outlined in rubrics] • Reading quizzes [10 points]

Grades con’t • Quizzes (both announced and unannounced) [10-30 points] • Exams (chapter, unit, midterm and end of the year) [minimum of 80 - 100 points] • Possible long term assignments (such as a journal or event tracking log) [points outlined in rubrics] • Notebook checks ( roughly every 3 weeks) [based on number of entries but typically 40-80 points]

8. Final Grades Final grades for each 6 weeks are calculated using Pinellas County requirements: • 90-100% (A) • 80-89% (B) • 70-79% (C) • 60-69% (D) • below 60% (F)

9. RULES School Rules: See student handbook. All school rules will be strictly enforced. This includes dress code and electronic devices! • Classroom Rules: Listed below are some but not all of the rules specific to room 214 • Computer chairs are for computer desks only • Respect your classmates and their property • Raise your hand to be called on • Cheating and plagiarism will not be tolerated • Do not enter my office without permission • Never touch my laptop • Ask before using the student computers • Do not talk well I am talking • Do your own work

10. 3 Strikes and Pink Slips • After your 3rd strike(warning) for minor offenses a pink slip will be issued • Minor offenses are things like cursing, interruptions, yelling, and more • Pink slips are teacher detentions to be served during lunch or after school within two days • Any offense after being issued a pink slip will result in an office referral • Failure to serve will result in an office referral • Major offenses will result in an automatic office referral
