Topic 1: First Aid/CPR • Take this seriously • It’s just you and your partner, alone • Your partner slips and breaks an ankle • What will you do??
Topic 2: Vehicles • Rules review • In the field • Walk the last mile; spotters; 4x4 • Inspections • Chains, fire ext., 1st aid kit, saws • What to do in an accident
Rules review • What is official use? • Name something you can’t transport. • Is it OK to drive after one beer? • Is cell phone use OK?
In the field • Always wear belts • Slow down • Walk the last mile (or two) • Always use spotters • 4-wheel drive • Be aware of changing conditions • Lights on, windows cracked, radio low • Stay awake – passengers too!
Inspections • Once per month or after each major trip • Report/repair all damage immediately • Chains, fire extinguisher, 1st aid kit, saws for emergency use • Your vehicle is the only thing between you and a long hike in the dark
Accidents • Never, ever admit fault • Check for injuries • Call police or LEO, even for minor accidents • Discuss only with police, state the facts • Accident packs in vehicles • Call supervisor as soon as possible
