  1. VISUAL ART SS 3 [ WEEK 2]ANCIENT WEST AFRICAN CULTURE1. Ashanti culture : The Ashanti tribe of Ghana is known for major art works like – akwaba dolls –stools – textiles –gold weigh etc. Akwaba is a wooden image used as a symbol of fertility and beautity , the stool serves as a symbol of unity, the textiles kente serves as a symbol of social prestige worn during special occasions , adinkra is another textile produced by printing technology, the gold weight used to weigh gold dust.2. Bamileke art [Cameroon], most of their art works associated with royal mostly produced with wood, Samples of work – mask, head dresses ,stool carving figures .3. Fon art [republic of Benin], their works centered on court art . Samples of work are –brass work, weaving, applique, colourful murals4.Mende art [Sierra-Leon] Mende people are predomintly rice farmers. Works of are nomoli[a stone figure],bundu mask etc nomoli is believed to aid fertility in their agriculture. QUESTIONS 1. Explain the uniqueness IN akwaba dolls to the Ashanti tribe2. Both Bamileke and Fon arts are mainly court art .Explain and give twosamples of work each.
