What happens when 2 Asians, 2 South Americans and 4 Caucasians get together for a MISSION (that looks )IMPOSSIBLE ( joke)… WUH –OH H…
A biweekly meeting is held along with some Saturdays for staff and student updates as well as house cleaning and managerial planning!
What happened?! The following were CREATED… • A PBIS handbook was created and aligned with the school handbook. • PBIS Brochures were handed out to parents as well as students. • A more organized computer room with an accountability chart for each class was made. • More organized art room with an accountability chart for each class was made. • Both students and staff are now on the same page when it comes to school rules and accountability! • PBIS videos were created ( with awesome local OSCAR worthy talents) showing the application of the school culture in: the use of the bathroom; while riding the bus; hallway behavior; cafeteria rules, library rules, computer and art room rules; playground safety and the like…
Classes are rewarded for being “caught in the act” of being safe, respectful, and responsible. Each week, about 3 classes are selected from the ticket box, and the winning classes are announced and they receive a treat from PBIS.
Individual students are recognized for being safe, respectful ,or responsible through our blue mighty mustang ticket!Names are drawn on a weekly basis and lucky little ones receive a variety of interesting tangible treats from PBIS.
A weekly MIGHTY MUSTANG STAFF is recognized and given the privilege of parking in a SPECIAL PARKING SPOT !!!(A more presentable and more sturdy parking sign is in progress…promise, wink!)
A “safety fencing project” for parent pick up area is established…
A better traffic flow for parent pick up is also set in stone! • The cones separate the cars in 2 lanes • A better staggered dismissal schedule for walkers and bikers is also provided.
Did we already say that these have been a big hit?! More like a winning number in a lotto, or a jackpot in VEGAS!?(Just checking if you really are paying attention, JOKE!)
A specific area to ride the bike is delineated to prevent accidents after bike riders are dismissed!
Poster making contest per class… Winning posters are hanged on the walls as a reminder! Fifth grade classes did a skit on school rules during one of our first quarter assemblies.
Just showing the busy entrance doors after recess! Numbers on the playground floor were painted for students to line up before going to their classes.
Who does not like to play? “All work and no play makes a man DULL! “ • Tether balls and hopscotch areas were created to give the students more activities to indulge in during recess! • A first aid kit is attached to the balls cart to be more proactive about possible injuries!
RESULTS … Happy and learning students… …And more dignified and happier role models ( teachers)! Yes, we all have to stop at every horse shoe painted by PBIS team.
CAFETERIA More organized and cleaner cafeteria… And YES, no food beyond this point!
The sun shines brighter … As everything falls into place… …and every child feels safe, secured, and happily learning in and around school!
Our school becomes more beautiful not only on the surface but also on the inside ( culture, safety, organization, supports for both personnel and students…)
“A single leaf working alone provides no shade”--- well, this was the first quote that we used when we first met as a team at SHERATON…
TOGETHER and with PRIDE, WE WELCOME YOU TO…THE HOME OF THE CHAMPIONS!!!
