Lund University – international students, The situation today Over 80 Master’s programmes taught in English 474 courses in English Academic year 2009/2010 600 beginner students (free-movers) from countries outside the EES admitted autumn 2009 - In total 1000 students for the academic year Another 600 students with unknown country of origin - In total 1000 students for the academic year - 1800 incoming exchange students In total about 3800 international students today
Lund University – international students 2011 onwards Level of ambition for 2011: Keep 2/3 of the number of students from countries outside the EES (400 studenter) Goal within 5 years: 1500 fee-paying students 1500 European students 1800 exchange students In total 4 800 international students in five years

Residence permits Closer dialogue with the Migration Board needed • Time frame (last day for payment) • the later the better • Recognition of other funding opportunities. • Today only US student loans and Swedish scholarships are accepted, but thousands of other scholarships are available. • Invitation from the Migration Board to a national meeting of all Swedish universities regarding immigration policies?
The admissions process More expedient and flexible admissions process needed with regard to: • Application period • Possibilities for universities to have continuous dialogue with students during the process • Integrated scholarship process. Today students are being admitted without knowing their full costs (possible scholarships) • Application fee a major obstacle when recruiting students • Possibilities to have designated places for fee-paying students in second admission selection Local admission 2012?

Erasmus Mundus Exemption of tuition fees for Erasmus Mundus scholarship holders needed! • Contracts already established • Important source of excellent students with scholarships • Important EU programme, long term institutional cooperation
Sweden as a study destination • Europe, Nordic, Scandinavia, Öresund, Lund? All? • Work opportunities after degree? • Coordination and help from authorities involved (embassies etc.) Better dialoque needed! Lots of challenges – Lots of opportunities !
