American Red Cross January 2006 - I received a call from the American Red Cross in Valdosta asking to donate blood. After careful consideration, I agreed. - Upon arriving, I was taken into a small room and asked several questions about my medical history. - They then checked my Iron level and Blood Pressure to see if I qualified to give blood. - I was told I was unable to give blood because my blood pressure was extremely low. - I was told to sit out in the waiting room for a while so they can check on my blood pressure after a short while. During this process, they gave me apple juice and cookies…Mmmmmm - I was taken back into the small room and they proceeded to check my blood pressure again. - I was barely over the accepted blood pressure, and they allowed me to donate my blood. - Donating the blood took about half an hour, but the whole visitation took 2 hrs.- I left the Valdosta American Red Cross with a great feeling knowing that my blood was going to help someone, and a little light headed from the loss of blood during the process.
Georgia State Literary Competition 2006 The Georgia State Literary Competition is a gathering of various high schools around Georgia, in my case AAAA, competing in such subjects like Singing (Trio, Quartet, Solo), Dramatic Interpretation (Male & Female), Spelling, Extemporaneous Speaking, & Essay. March 18th, 2006: I volunteered to help out running the Literary Competition. In helping, individuals would time certain events, serve food to the judges, & deliver results. I’ve volunteered with State Literary ever since my Sophomore Year of High School, so I pretty much knew what was expected of my services.
Georgia State Literary Competition 2006 Some of the fellow volunteers at State Literary in Warner Robins, GA at Northside High School. Clockwise starting from the top: Travis, Shanae, Me, Amber, and Richard. Me and Amber taking a picture after Barnett, the head of the State Literary Competition announced results. Barnett realized we were trying to take a pic without him knowing and decided to pose for the camera.
Georgia State Literary Competition 2006 Me and Amber acting goofy as usual. Every year, Barnett gives us shirts from the competition, and every time, the shirt is always an XL. Trying to see if it was possible, Amber and I decided to see if the shirt would fit both of us. Surprisingly, the shirt did.
Catholic Newman Center I have always been involved with The Catholic Newman Center’s Volunteer Services. March’s volunteering Services took place at Applebees, located on Perimeter Road. The Catholic Newman Center sold tickets for a breakfast at Applebees to raise money for new utilities in the Catholic Newman Center and Senior Gifts. I worked as a busboy and cleared dish off tables and wiped them down. Occasionally, I’d help serve food and drinks. It wasn’t as busy as we’d expected (a lot of people took the food to go), so most of the time we’d socialize or make up new dances like the pancake dance!
