  2. Why become an umpire? • Keeps you active in baseball • Give something back to the game • Best seat in the house • Be part of the special fraternity of sports officials • Great part-time summer employment

  3. What does it take? • Love of the game • Confidence and pride • Hustle, physical and mental alertness • A sense of fair play and impartiality • Willingness to learn and gain experience

  4. Getting Started • Contact CABUA or your local Little League • Register for a National Umpire Certification Level One Clinic

  5. National Umpire Certification Program (NUCP) • Level One • Two-day clinic • Written exam • Fundamental positioning • Basic rules • Code of ethics • Qualities of a good umpire • Equipment; uniform

  6. What Comes Next? • Uniform and basicequipment • Check with local league or CABUA for loaner items, new or good used re-sale • Contact your local league or CABUA Assignor

  7. Then………. Play ball!!!!

  8. Example Umpire Game Fees * • Calgary area amateur baseball umpire fees range from approximately $30 to $60 per game, per umpire dependant on league & level of play • Major League Umpire - $250,000 USD per year!! * 2007 Approximate fees - reviewed & adjusted when appropriate
