Common Core Essential Elements The Common Core Essential Elements (CCEE) are specific statements of the content and skills that are linked to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) grade level specific expectations for students with significant cognitive disabilities. The CCEE are for English language arts and mathematics. Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction
Common Core Essential Elements • Wisconsin educators were involved with the consortium states to develop Essential Elements of the Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts and Mathematics. • The CCEE were formally adopted by State Superintendent, Tony Evers in June 2012 Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction

Wisconsin Common Core Essential Elements for English Language Arts and MathematicsAccess to Academic Content and Instruction for Students with Significant Cognitive Disabilities- Draft • Begin to use Dynamic Learning Maps to guide instruction • Understand the implications on local and state assessments and use of participation criteria • Implement instructional practices and strategies that align with CCEE • Develop and implement standards-based Individualized Education Program (IEP) • Collaboratively develop select, administer and analyze benchmark assessments to measure progress • Conduct collaborative team studies of student data and progress and analyze results • Prepare for and administer the summative alternate assessment (DLM) • Evaluate results on both formative and summative assessments to determine effectiveness of instruction • Understand the Common Core State Standards for English language arts and mathematics (CCSS) are for all learners, represent college and career readiness and provide the foundation for the CCEE • Understand the purpose of the Common Core Essential Elements for English language arts and mathematics (CCEE) as providing access to academic content and instruction • Explore the Common Core Essential Elements for English language arts and mathematics (CCEE) and understand the progression of skills across grade levels and content. • Interpret the implications for instruction embedded in the knowledge, skills and understandings in grade level CCEE • Awareness of change in future local and state assessments, the use of participation criteria and Dynamic Learning Maps • Examine the principles behind teaching content areas and the CCEE • Plan for curriculum development with all educators and select resources to implement CCEE • Understand role and function of IEP in relation to CCEE • Develop and/or identify instructional practices and strategies that align with CCEE • Develop local curriculum based on instructional focus to implement the CCEE • Review and align local formative and benchmark assessments to CCEE Year One: 2012-2013 Laying the Foundation for Change Year 3: 2014-2015 Assessing and Evaluating Year 2: 2013-2014 Developing, Aligning and Implementing
