  3. Bell Ringer • Take 30 seconds and think about your current schedule and the process you followed last year to get that schedule. • Take 2 minutes and share with the person next to you that process and how you felt about your choices.

  4. Graduation Requirements • What DO I NEED?!?!?!?!?! • English 4 credits • Social Studies 4 credits - ONE MUST BE AMERICAN SOCIETY • Mathematics 3 credits • Science 3 credits • Physical Education** 3 courses (which includes Intro to Sports/Fitness) • Health Education ** 1 course in Grade 10 • Graduation Project 1 credit--Grade 11 • Arts and Humanities 2 courses in Grades 9, 10, 11, or 12 (Art, Music, World Language) • Practical Arts 2 courses in Grades 9-12 (Technology Education, Family Consumer Science and Business), which will include Career Skills (to be taken in 10th or 11th Grade) • Electives Additional credits chosen by the student to obtain 25 credits • **class of 2013—3 phys ed classes and 2 health classes

  6. Course Offerings A requirement of 25 interested students must be met in order to offer a course in the 2012-2013 school year. Therefore, some courses in the course selection guide may not be offered. Exceptions may be made by the building principal.

  7. REQUESTING COURSES • **Complete and submit signed course selection form. • **Students should select at least 3 alternative courses • **Changes to the course requests will be accepted until July 1. • **Schedules mailed in August.

  8. DROPPING AND ADDING CLASSES • **Final Schedule will be mailed in August. • **Changes will only be made in the events of • Conflicts or Missing Courses—(Set up appointment with your counselor prior to the beginning of the school year.) • Why is this?... • Balancing classes, the ability to offer courses, appropriate use of teacher resources and fairness to other students • Please take time and consideration when choosing your classes!

  9. DROPPING AND ADDING CLASSES STUDENT/PARENT GENERATED REQUESTS TO DROP OR CHANGE CLASSES DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR WILL NOT BE PERMITTED.

  10. PROMOTION POLICY The following totals represent the minimum earned requirements necessary for promotion to the next grade: Grade 09: 5.00 credits Grade 10: 12.00 credits Grade 11: 18.00 credits Graduation: 25.00 credits

  11. Some things to consider when choosing courses… • **You may NOT repeat a course and receive credit. • **PREREQUISITES • **Weighting of courses • **Honors Courses/AP Courses/College in the HS/Dual Enrollment

Special opportunities for Senior year • **Cooperative Education (Y.E.S.)/Work Release • **Mentor Programs (during the school day) • HACC—CNA program, Empire Beauty School, Hanover Police mentoring program • **After school Mentor Programs • Accounting, Architecture, Arts, Culinary, Entrepreneurship, Hospitality, Legal • Applications for all of these programs can be obtained in the career center in May. Listen for morning announcements.
