Types of Internet Connections • Dial-up access • Local area network (LAN) • Cable modem • DSL • Wireless • Satellite
Navigating the Internet • Surfing – accessing and moving about the Internet using a web browser • Web browser – is an application that finds Web pages and displays them on the computer screen • Ex) Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox
Navigating the Internet • Web browsers locate material on the Internet using Internet Protocol (IP) addresses • 207.171.181.16 • Since remembering IP numbers would be difficult, every computer also has a corresponding Web address called a uniform resource locator (URL)

Respecting the Internet Community • Netiquette – collection of rules and guidelines that define good Internet behavior • It is based on the Golden Rule
Respecting the Internet Community • Ten Basic Rules of Netiquette • Include a subject line which reflects the content • Be clear and concise; try to limit words to what can be seen on one computer screen • Do not use ALL CAPS • Use proper business English, no abbreviations, and use emoticons sparingly • Check spelling and grammar
Respecting the Internet Community • Ten Basic Rules of Netiquette (con’t) • Ask before you send an attachment to someone • Do not send personal information, passwords, or sensitive/questionable information via email • Don’t type anything on your screen that you would not tell someone face-to-face • Always minimize, compress, or zip large files before sending • Verify anything you forward as true and delete all of the other email addresses in the heading

List your 5 example websites on Module.
