  3. Day Pool Hours… • Monday-Friday: 1-4 (guarding 12:45-4) • Adult swim @ 2:30-2:45pm • Saturday-Sunday: 2-5 (guarding 1:45-5) • Adult swim @ 3:30-3:45pm • 4 guards M-Th • 3 guards Fri-Sun • All shifts on Whentowork!

  18. Mandatory Inservices • June 1st 11-1pm (ALL AQUATIC STAFF) • June 7th 10-12pm (Swim Instructors) • June 14th 10-12pm (Lifeguards) • July 7th 11-1pm (Lifeguards) • July 21st 11-1pm (Lifeguards) • August 4th 11-1pm (Lifeguards) • ***Lifeguards MUST attend 2 out of the 4 blueinservices

  19. Swim Attire • Lifeguards: Red suit • http://www.swimoutlet.com • Girls: one or two piece • Boys: any red board short • Swim Instructors: Black/blue/neutral sport suit • Girls: no triangle tops

  20. Lifeguard Attire • Lifeguard tank provided by Arden Park • Who needs one? • Shorts: need to be easy to move in (i.e. Athletic shorts) • Fanny Packs • Who needs one? • Whistles • Sunglasses • Sunscreen! • Some in the shed but bring your own • Water-STAY HYDRATED!

Lifeguard Duties • Main responsibility: Keep people safe! • BE LOUD ON POOL DECK! • Don’t be afraid to use your whistle • Switching stands: Shallow Deep Baby Pool Break • Every 15 mins • Make sure to watch the clock! • First guard of the day-ensure the battery is in the motorized chair • Last guard of the day-ensure to take the battery out of motorized chair

  22. Lifeguard Duties cont… • Keep pool deck clean • Pickup trash on break/end of shift • Enforce kids to pick up their trash • If you have any problems, Devyn or Maddie will be there to help

  23. Pool Rules • NO running • NO rough play in the pool • On other shoulders • Piggyback rides • Splashing • Throwing each other • NO persons in pool until lifeguards are up in stands and ready

Pool Rules cont… • NO life vests- only coastguard approved • This includes swimmies, water wings, floaties, rafts, body boards, frisbees, water guns, or inflatables in pool • Only proper swim attire allowed- no clothes • Babies: must wear swim diapers • Diving only allowed on diving board and designated areas • We loan out goggles and noodles but only on non-busy days

Diving Board Rules • NO back flips • Front flips are OK • NO jumping in backwards • NO twisties • NO diving off swim team diving blocks • After diving off the board, swimmers must swim under the dividing rope, or to the side of the pool. At that point, the next swimmer may jump off the board.

  26. DRILLS • WHITE SHIRT DRILL: active drowner • RED SHIRT DRILL: passive drowner (backboard) • We will have multiple drills this year, so be ready! • If you do rescue someone, you MUST fill out a rescue report-located in shed & office

  27. Pool Incidents • Severe Weather- Any sign of thunder/lightning, clear the pool IMMEDIATELY • Wait 1 hour w/ no signs of thunder/lightning before allowing people back in pool • Code Brown-If you see something suspicious, call over Devyn or Maddie ASAP • This includes vomit

  28. POP QUIZ! • A child comes up to you while you are guarding with a cut on his finger and asks you for a bandaid… What do you do? • You see a mom start to put a life vest on her child and starts walking them down the steps in the pool… What do you do?

  29. POP QUIZ cont… • You hear thunder… What do you do? • If you clear the pool for severe weather, how long do you wait until people can swim again? • T/F We allow back flips off the diving board • T/F We loan out goggles everyday the pool is open
