  4. Lake • A body of water surrounded by land

  5. Ocean • one of the large bodies of salt water into which the ocean is divided • Four Major Oceans • Pacific (largest) • Atlantic • Indian • Arctic (smallest)

  7. Beach • a sandy or gravelly part of the shore of a body of water • This is a picture from Gulf Shores, Alabama, located where the Alabama shoreline meets the Gulf of Mexico, part of the Atlantic Ocean.

  8. Ocean Ridge - An underwater mountain range Continental Shelf - a shallow underwater plain that forms a border to a continent

  9. Plateau ~ flat land raised above the surrounding land

  10. Canyon • a deep narrow valley with steep sides and often with a stream flowing through it • This is a picture of Little River Canyon in Alabama.

  11. Sand Dunes • A hill of sand formed by wind and or water. • Protects in land areas from storms and hurricanes.

  12. Ice Caps • Land that is covered by ice all year. • Found at the North and South Poles.

  13. Glacier • A huge mass of slowly moving ice.
