Joyful and Profitable Leadership Webinar April 24, 2013
Leadership Recap: • The most important factor in building a successful downline is retention • We can’t build the next generation of leaders if we aren’t doing a good job of retaining all of our downline • This means we have to focus on more than just our high achievers • We need to find a way for all demos to feel “successful”
Happiness Breeds Success • Rather than focusing on how to create successful downline: sales and titles, we can focus on creating happiness • Successful people are not always happy: work all year long to earn a trip and then we have to start from the beginning. • But happy people will generate their own level of success. They will be happy with it, feel accomplished, and WILL STAY ACTIVE • This creates more opportunity for all of us
First 3 Leadership Rules • Don’t complain down • Do it, Dump it or Delegate it • Get to vs Have to
How to Create Happiness • Our goal is to create the opportunity for happiness on a variety of levels • We can’t make people happy, but we can provide a culture of happiness by focusing on the 10 key emotions of happiness • The benefits of a happy downline
Start with YOU • Focus on creating and modeling joy • Talk about it, share it • Embrace the idea and possibility of joy
Ask • Ask your downline what makes them happy at work • Information is power • What is the best thing that has happened to you ? • Start each event with that (in person or virtual) • People will start thinking of what they are going to share before the event even begins • This mindset puts them in a good place before your event even begins
Appreciate • One of our jobs as a leader is to believe in people before they believe in themselves • Make sure everyone of your downline understands how important and critical their involvement is and how it helps others (sharing, commenting, showing up) • Happiness is all about feelings and the number one thing people want is recognition and appreciation, they want to feel special
TA-DA We stop announcing TA-DA around 8 years old But we still need the acknowledgement and feeling of TA-DA Create an opportunity for people to share their TA-DA Appreciate others’ accomplishments
Service • The opportunity to connect with something bigger than ourselves • Group goals • Service projects: create purpose and meaning • Serving Customers • Model Service: you are a servant o your team. You serve them by developing them, helping them believe in themselves, creating an environment in which they can be the best they can be • Serving others builds teamwork
Gratitude Glasses • A picture or a real pair in your office • View people, events, or opportunities with gratitude • Creating gratitude journals • End your events with “what are you grateful for today?” • Gratitude fills us with hope.
Be a Good Finder • Not a good “finder” but a “good finder” • Those people who are wildly successful in everything they do: they find good in every person, everything that has happened to them • Actively and consciously look for the best • Model this and share it with your team • Conscious choice to make the good out of the difficult
Be A “Good Finder” , 2 • Don’t worry about whether the glass is half full or half empty, be grateful there is any water in the glass to begin with. • There is good in everything • There is good in every place • There is good in every person • Think it, talk it, share it • Be brave
Listen • Schedule time to listen: let people know when you can give 100%, then give 100% • Learn how to listen: listen, stop, respond • Don’t be so eager to “share” • Acknowledge, Join the team, Ask how you can help
Your Mood • A leader’s mood has a huge impact on the performance and culture of your downline • Your goal is to be cheerfully enthusiastic in the face of all adversity • Believe that all things work out: believe it, expect it, it makes a huge difference
Be a Spirit Igniter • “we are developing great people to do extraordinary things” • Great compassion and concern for our downline • People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care • A positive glance, a thumbs up, a smile….these can all ignite another’s spirit
Generosity • Be generous with your spirit, your time, your praise • Every one is walking a hard road. They are doing the best they can • Give others the benefit of the doubt and never assume the worst • Focus on giving and you will create a flow in your group and more will come back
Forgiveness • We need to practice Forgiveness on a daily basis • People will ALWAYS unconsciously offend us or trigger our fears—but we have to own that is our stuff • View all of life as opportunities to practice our calm • Hold yourself and others to a state of grace, not perfection • Say it, model it, call it out
Feelings • Listen to your heart and your feelings • Schedule time to be quiet, reflect and feel • Trust your gut, your inner feelings, and a sense of knowing • Trust the wisdom of your heart, it speaks thru your gut • Once you are connected to your heart, then you can connect to others’ hearts: and that is the secret of real relationships • And all business when boiled down is about feelings
Recap • As a leader you are the pace horse, PERIOD • Set the tone • Appreciate • Recognize ALL achievements, share the spotlight • Service builds teamwork • Gratitude creates hope • Find the good • Listen • Believe • Be Generous • Forgive • Feel and connect
