Evaluating Expectations • A person’s choice in their education can shed light on personality, motivation, character, interests. • What subjects were best liked/disliked? Those students who like English, History and Languages usually have strength in verbal skills Chemistry, Biology, Physics indicate scientific interests and aptitude • Night school attendance may indicate perseverance, energy and industry • Working one’s way through school may be a plus indicating organization skill and energy level
Expectations Continued • Having no employment record/no summer jobs, internships could indicate to easy a life and a non-work orientation • Academic performance (good grades/GPA) is one indicator of achievement, as well as a sense of responsibility • Being a member of sports team at school could indicate competitiveness • Holding class offices, fraternity/sorority offices would indicate not only leadership but also favorable personal relationships/people skills
What We Want • Well rounded student with some work history including internships/part-time, summer • Multiple experiences showing leadership roles with-in student organizations, sports programs, social and philanthropic organizations • Someone willing to adapt to a variety of changes and demands • Can communicate their core values, honesty, work ethic and respect for others • Stick to basics, emphasize through college career what you can do to solve problems and be a good team member • Be able to highlight any special skills • The content of your College Career will get you noticed, highlight what you did and the results gained from your action!
