  4. Central Office Responsibilities • Prepare requests to be placed on bidders list and laws • Maintain RFP’s • Identify other funding sources such as matching/in-kind contributions • Disseminate information • Obtain approvals, sign-offs • Establish procedures

  5. Building-Level Responsibilities • Prepare annual plan • List specific project priorities • Coordinate with KEY people • Establishing responsibility/procedure • Coordination of timeline activities • Data collection

  6. Grant Search • Local Libraries • Subscribe to publications • Federal Register • Education Grant Alert • Education Grants Source Book • Web! • E-mail Listservs

  7. Match Items to Criteria • Do you meet the requirements? • Is the timeline realistic? • Do you have appropriate resources? • Can you implement and support an effective evaluation?

  8. Writing the Grant • Follow guidelines! • Font (type and size) • Spacing (lines, margins, paragraphs) • Number of pages (total) • Headers/footers (identification!) • Web site posting? • Appendixes

  9. State Your Case • Be clear and concise • Less is better • Always consider and write to the readers, and even be a little humorous • Never assume anything • BE HONEST!

Things to remember… • Develop your team—don’t go solo on this • Gather information and have what you need before you begin writing • Be clear and concise • Write, re-write, and write again—form a review committee, perhaps external • Some grants now require Web submissions • Don’t forget evaluation • Good luck!
