  2. 1970 • The schools that were known as: Applied Arts and Sciences Business Education General Studies Liberal Arts and Sciences Graduate Studies were all renamed. • The new names consisted of: the colleges of Applied Sciences Business Education General Studies Arts and Sciences the Graduate College Next Page

  3. 1973 • WMU’s student enrollment more than doubled, going from 9,000 to 22,000 students. Next Page

  4. 1974 John T. Bernhard is elected as WMU‘s fourth President, he was in office from September 1974 to June 1985 Next Page

  5. 1976 Private contributions can now be made to the University. Donations help build Waldo Library. Next Page

  6. 1977 WMU’s Foundation organization elects Wm. John Upjohn and Arthur Homer as the first president and vice president of its board of Directors. Next Page
