This report discusses the plans, set-up, and time frame for rewiring anodes in the STAR TPC, with detailed steps for the process, including sector mounting, soldering wires, and installing the GG and cathode planes. It also outlines the modifications needed for the sector mounting tool and estimates the total time and cost required for the project.

New anode wires in STAR TPC A.Lebedev, BNL, June 4, 2009
This report was not possible without advises from H. Wieman and J.Wirth
Plans and estimations • How to rewire anodes • Set-up and place • Sector mounting tool • Time frame for project • Money
How to rewire anodes Clean room with granite tables and tools Frames to remove GG and Cathode planes Install and glue new anode plane -2 days Solder wires to sockets 1 day Install GG and Cathode plane Check sector with a new anode wires Time to repair sector ~ 8-10 days
Modified Sector Mounting Tool • Support cylinder extended with “bolt-on” unit. • Rails extended to allow sliding “trolley” to move back farther. (shifts CG away from TPC face) • 650lb counter weight bolted inside of extension cylinder. • With trolley pulled back, CG is 83” from TPC face. • 3 point lift provided by bolt-on arms. • Weight of modified SMT is 2400 lb. Cable tray Counter weight
Time frame and scope of work. • Before the shutdown-made all frames with anode wires. At BNL have an old, but functioned winding machine. • Clean room on STAR magnet to preserve environment for Sector Mounting Tool • Other clean room at Assembly Building (AB) or other BNL building-exists, but needs modification- 1 week. • We need STAR detector in AB to perform all job- 20 days to move detector from and in Wide Angle Hall. • We can use 2 spare Inner Sectors to save time. • To remove all electronics from TPC we need 2-3 weeks.
Time frame and scope of work- continuation. • To remove one sector from TPC -> ½ day-2 sectors/day • Better to have 2 lines of granite tables to speed TPC modification. • Full route for one sector min- 10-11 days. To replace 24 sectors we need 120 days (24 weeks). • If we build another clean room on other STAR side- we’ll save 1 week. Total time estimation at AB ~28 weeks. Summer shutdown usually >4 months, so it is NOT possible to do job through one summer. We need sacrifice one year RHIC run. Cost : 4 tech/year $0.5M + tool(?)+ shop(?)$1.0 M
