Safety First • Knives are designed to cut only • NO Cubs under the age of Bear is allowed to carry a knife • A Cub needs to earn the privilege to carry a knife • Any “horse play” or unsafe use of knives will immediately result in the loss of the privilege or a corner of the whittling chip card.
Safety Rules • Keep the knife sharp and clean • Know where your knife is at all times • Say “Thank you” when passing the knife • Check your “BLOOD CIRCLE” (Safety circle) before you open the knife • NO knives at school

Knife Sharpening • Use a wet stone with oil or water • Saturate the stone for 10 minutes • Not too much pressure • Long even stroke from heel to tip • 20 degree bevel at body • 45 degree bevel at edge
