Significant reductions in the use of chemicals has been one of the key benefits of building and maintaining a healthy soil biology at Elanora Country Club (Bowling Greens) Most of the chemicals commonly sprayed to control pests and disease simply treat the symptoms of the problem and don’t do anything about the cause. Realising this, Matt Hamilton from Elanora Country Club began a program of soil rehabilitation and after analysing his greens, Matt started using a number of Soilsmart products to build biological activity and the health of his soil. Matt not only wanted to reduce the considerable costs in both product and time he was consuming, he also wanted to minimise the exposure to himself, his staff and the club’s members from the chemicals that were commonly used on the greens. To build and balance soil biology Matt’s program includes monthly applications of Soil & Plant Tonic, backed up at renovation by GranoVerm and Humi-K Powder. Matt also uses a combination of BiSect with Eucalyptus and Tea tree oil as a deterrent to insects such as nematodes, cut worm, beetles, couch fly etc. Savings in water use have also followed a similar trend to that of chemicals which has also not only resulted in a significant reduction in the workload, it has also reduced the Clubs’ environmental footprint.
