Where were you born? • I was born in Portland, Oregon.
Why did you leave your native country or state? • I left Oregon because I didn't like the weather. • I left Hawaii because the economy was bad. Housing was very expensive and salaries were small.
How did you feel when you left your native country? • I felt happy when I left Oregon. I felt excited about moving to Hawaii. • I felt very sad when I left Hawaii. I didn't want to leave my friends and the beautiful weather.
When did you come to the U.S.? How did you get here? • I came to Arizona in October, 1997. • I drove here from Oregon with my father.
What was the first city you came to in the U.S.? What did you see? • The first city I came to in Arizona was Goodyear. • I saw lots of desert plants, such as cactus and ocotillos.
How did you feel after you came to the United States? • I felt a little sad when I came to Arizona because I didn't want to leave Hawaii. • I also felt a little happy because everything was cheaper here.
Did anything surprise you when you first arrived here? What surprised you? • I was very surprised at the buildings. I didn't see many tall buildings and all the houses looked the same. • I was also surprised at the weather. It was colder in the winter than I expected. • I was surprised at the landscape. I didn't see any tall trees or mountains.
Where do you live now? • Now I live in Litchfield Park, Arizona.
