Becoming a Part of the School CommunityRecommend that your student: • Attend a school play • Attend a school athletic event • Attend a school music or dance concert • Join a club • Volunteer outside of the school day • Show gratitude • Smile! • Visit the library; read a book • Sit with someone new at lunch • Converse with the student next to them in a class • Introduce themselves to a staff member, i.e. security guard, custodian, or office staff
Behavior“Attitude is a little thing that makes a BIG difference.”-- Winston Churchill • Respect • Obey classroom and school rules • Never cheat • Cooperate with teachers and classmates • Follow “The Golden Rule” of “doing unto others” • Honor others in their challenges and triumphs • Take responsibility for your actions
A Small But Important Piece of the Puzzle • Avoid falling into the same traps of first semester: • Not studying or being poorly prepared • Copying people’s homework • Procrastination and tardiness • Unexcused absences • Not asking questions in class • AND NOT COMING IN FOR HELP!!!!
Final Thoughts • Second semester typically is tougher than the first, they use the skills and knowledge gained in first semester for all of second semester. So please stay on your student, if you find they are struggling, please contact us immediately. • They must have a positive attitude to do well! • Limit their social media, they can become “over-saturated” with technology. • Be involved in your student’s success in and out of school!
