  2. Captain James Cook Captain James Cook set sail in 1768 on board the ‘HM Bark Endeavour’, and landed in Australia's Botany Bay in 1770. When he arrived, he declared the east coast of Australia his, and named it ‘New South Wales’.

  3. Governor Arthur Phillip Born: 11 October 1738 in London Died: 31 August 1814 Governor Arthur Phillip was in charge of the first fleet. When the fleet landed in Port Botany, he denied it and sailed further north to discover ‘Port Jackson’.

  4. The First Fleet • The first fleet consisted of 11 ships and was in the command of Governor Arthur Phillip. The Ships Included: • 2 Naval Ships • HMS Sirius • HMS Supply • 6 Convict Ships • Alexander • Charlotte • Friendship • Lady Penryhn • Prince of wales • Scarborough • 3 Supply Ships • Golden Grove • Fishburn • Borrowdale

  5. The First Fleet • The First Fleet set sail for ‘New Holland’ on the 13th of May 1787 • When the fleet landed in Port Botany, they decided it was not suitable for settlement, and sailed further North to ‘Port Jackson’ on the 26th of January 1788.

  6. What did they bring to Australia? During the British colonisation, the settlers brought to Australia many items needed to begin a new settlement. This includes livestock, provisions, plants and seeds.   7. What did they bring to Australia? The introduction of infectious disease due to the British colonisation effected many Aboriginal people, resulting in severe illness or death. These include: Chickenpox Smallpox Influenza Measles
