Governor Arthur Phillip Born: 11 October 1738 in London Died: 31 August 1814 Governor Arthur Phillip was in charge of the first fleet. When the fleet landed in Port Botany, he denied it and sailed further north to discover ‘Port Jackson’.
The First Fleet • The first fleet consisted of 11 ships and was in the command of Governor Arthur Phillip. The First Fleet • The First Fleet set sail for ‘New Holland’ on the 13th of May 1787 • When the fleet landed in Port Botany, they decided it was not suitable for settlement, and sailed further North to ‘Port Jackson’ on the 26th of January 1788.
