Presentation Objectives • Review the educational benefits of implementing a one-to-one program • Discuss what we’ve done, what we’re doing, and what we will do concerning the one-to-one program
EDUCATIONAL BENEFITS • Close the digital divide • Ensure students are college and career ready (i.e. 21st Century Ready) • Increase graduation AND attendance rates • Ensure technology is available at ALL times for EVERYONE • Provide students with access to materials 24-7
EDUCATIONAL BENEFITS • Improve academic achievement by personalizing learning • Provide relevant & “up-to-date” instruction • Foster a community of collaboration among teachers & students • Encourage proper digital citizenship & responsibility
WHAT HAVE WE DONE? • Spring 2012 • Visited Mooresville Graded School District • Met with Apple to explore options • Discussed goals, Developed a staff development plan, & Communicated a plan to BOE/Teachers • Summer 2012 • Staff were provided a MacBook Pro & Basic training • Selected staff members attended training (Intel, Cary Academy, & Flipping the Classroom) • Hired a JAH Technology Facilitator

Fall 2012 Continuously providing staff development • Delia DeCourcy & The TPACK Model • Lunch & Learn / Collaboration Days • Whole Group / One-on-One Sessions / Webinars • Google Apps Training • Dare County Schools Visit • McDowell County Schools Visit • Richland County Schools Visit • Textbook Investigation with various companies • Haiku Training (Learning Management System)
WHAT ARE WE DOING? Fall 2012 • Continuously studying the budget • Exploring various devices for implementation • MacBook Air • iPADS • ChromeBook
WHY THE CHROMEBOOK? • Price • Durability • Ease of setup for students • Supports Google Initiatives (i.e. G-Mail, Google Docs, Built-In Learning Management System, Cloud Computing, Chrome will be our “standard bowser,” etc.) • Strongly encourages collaboration
WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO? Fall 2012 • Continuously provide staff development • Select a device & pilot with 3 classes • Develop/Communicate a deployment plan & Explore “Protection Insurance” • Train a cohort of students & teachers to serve as “Tech Support”
WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO? Spring 2013 • Upgrade wireless network / Setup a HELP Desk • Provide staff development for teachers / Prepare laptops for students • Deploy devices to students • Continue to evaluate/reflect on the program
