  1. Monday, july 29 Pick up handouts

  2. Signature sheets are due today • Please put them in basket on Teacher Table.

  3. Composition book is due today • Please get it out so I can check that you have it.

  4. Writing prompt • In your Composition Notebook, start a new page and put today’s date at the top. You do not need to copy the following prompt unless you want to. Please answer in detail. You will have 5 minutes to respond. • What is your definition of kindness?

  5. Policy hunt • Get out your completed Policy Hunt. • We will go over them quickly together. • Once finished, please put your Policy Hunt in the basket.

  6. Computer check out • Please read the rules of using the class computers. • Now, grab a computer and bring it to your seat. Do not open it or try to log on, we are not doing that today. • Complete the Usage Agreement Form. • The computer number is on the little white tab on top, not the big blue one. Return the computer to the cart. Make sure to plug it back in. In the future, when we use computers in class, you will use this computer. Report any problems to me, so that I may have the computer repaired, and can issue you another one to use temporarily.

  7. Tone/mood • Please get out your Yellow Pages and go to the Tone/Mood section (pages 31-33). • We are starting Narratives tomorrow. One important aspect of any writing, but especially when writing narratives, is to pay attention to your tone and mood. • Tone and Mood are NOT the same things.

  8. Read the Ray Bradbury narrative • A short story is a type of narrative. Read the Ray Bradbury short story, “The Pedistrian”, quietly. • When you are finished reading, discuss with your table group the tone and mood of the piece. One person should record your major points on a white board. • What is the tone? How can you tell? What words in the story support the tone? • What is the mood? How can you tell? What words in the story support the mood? Share with the class.
